In the summer, when temperatures are soaring around the rest of the nation, Vail sits comfortably in the mid-70s. And at our 8,250-foot elevation that means there are plenty of ways for guests to stay entertained. Locals who come to ski in the winter admit they wind up staying because of Vail’s sparkling summer weather. Summer activities in Vail run the gamut from the highly intense (Jeeping, rafting, kayaking, downhill mountain biking, rock climbing, paragliding, riding the zip line at Piney Lake) to the still energizing, but more relaxing (balloon rides, horseback riding, fishing, golf, hiking and tennis). For proper family fun, Vail’s Epic Discovery is not to be missed, complete with Forest Flyer Mountain Coaster, ziplines, adventure courses, and more. Both the dance festival and Bravo! occur during the summer months at the gorgeous outdoor Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater. Just a short, but beautiful walk along Gore Creek or a free bus ride away from our luxury Vail lodge.
High altitude sickness can occur if you travel to heights that you are not used to. There are several prevention steps you can try in order to have a memorable visit to Vail. Before and during your trip drink more water than usual, avoid salty foods, caffeine, and alcohol. Also make sure to pack for the sun and dress in layers. You are ready to explore!
