For 60 years, Vail has been our home. It’s where our family grew, our love of the mountains took root, and a little dream became a tradition we’re proud to share with you.
When we think about what makes Tivoli Lodge special, we always come back to one thing: family.
Our story began in January 1963, when Bob and Diane Lazier arrived in Vail for their honeymoon. Vail was just beginning its journey as a ski resort, and there was something about this little mountain town that captured their hearts. What started as a honeymoon quickly became something much bigger. They fell in love with the mountains, the community, and the opportunity to be part of something truly special.
Like so many of Vail’s early pioneers, they were willing to work hard, learn as they went, and follow a dream. They took on hotel jobs, became part of the growing community, and began building a life in the mountains. In 1968, that dream became Tivoli Lodge.
Six decades later, we feel incredibly fortunate to continue the story they started.
From Our Family to Yours
Tivoli Lodge has changed over the years, just as Vail has. The original lodge gave way to a new building in 2006, bringing a fresh chapter to our family legacy. But while the building has evolved, the heart of Tivoli Lodge has stayed the same.
We have always believed that a great stay is about more than a beautiful room or a convenient location. It’s about how you feel when you walk through the door. It’s the warm greeting after a long day on the slopes, the little details that make your stay more comfortable, and the feeling that someone genuinely cares about your time here.
Today, the second and third generation of our family continue the Tivoli Lodge legacy. We grew up with Vail as our backyard, the mountains as our playground, and hospitality as part of everyday life. Carrying on what Bob and Diane built is something we take to heart. We’re proud of our history, but we also love creating new memories with the guests who visit us today.
Over the years, many guests have become familiar faces, and some have been returning for generations of their own. We love hearing about family ski trips that have become annual traditions, couples who return to celebrate special occasions, and guests who first visited Vail years ago and still feel at home here.
Those relationships mean the world to us. They remind us that we’re not just welcoming people to a lodge. We’re welcoming them into a place that means a great deal to our family.
You’ll Probably Find Us on the Mountain
If there’s one thing our family has never outgrown, it’s our love of skiing.
You can often find us out on Vail Mountain, enjoying the same incredible slopes that first drew our family here more than 60 years ago. There’s something about a bluebird morning, fresh snow, and the mountains stretching out in front of you that never gets old.
We know the excitement of getting an early start on a ski day, the joy of discovering a favorite run, and the satisfaction of coming back to the village after hours outside in the Colorado sunshine. These are the experiences that made us fall in love with Vail, and they’re a big part of why we love sharing it with others.
We think that personal connection makes a difference. We don’t just work in Vail; we live here, ski here, and continue to discover new reasons to love this place.
So, if you see us out on the slopes, don’t hesitate to say hello. We’re always happy to share a favorite run or simply enjoy a conversation with fellow mountain lovers.
Keep an Eye Out for our Mascot!
Of course, our family wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Racer, our resident chocolate Labrador.
Racer has a special talent for making friends, and he’s become part of what makes Tivoli Lodge feel like Tivoli Lodge. You might bump into him while strolling through Vail Village, find him greeting guests, or spot him enjoying a walk around town.
Our chocolate Labrador tradition began with Indy, continued with Speed, and now Racer is carrying it forward with plenty of personality of his own. Over the years, these four-legged family members have brought countless smiles to guests and locals alike.
We love seeing the way people light up when they meet Racer. Sometimes a quick hello to a friendly dog becomes one of those unexpected moments that makes a vacation memorable.
If you happen to see him during your visit, be sure to say hello. We can’t promise he’ll remember your name, but we’re pretty sure he’ll be happy to see you!
The Little Traditions That Make Tivoli Feel Like Home
Some of our favorite things about Tivoli Lodge are the traditions that have grown here over the years. They’re woven into the experience of staying with us, from the personal touches you’ll discover around the property to the special moments we look forward to sharing with our guests each season.
For us, hospitality has always been about more than providing a comfortable place to stay. It’s about creating a feeling, making connections, and finding little ways to make someone’s visit a little more special. Some traditions have been part of our story for years, while others have grown naturally as we’ve welcomed new guests and families into the Tivoli Lodge community.
One of our favorite traditions takes place on Christmas Eve, when our family personally hand-delivers a special gift to our guests. Christmas in Vail is such a magical time, and we love being able to share a little extra holiday cheer with those who have chosen to spend the season with us. It’s our way of saying thank you for being here and reminding our guests that they’re part of something special.
It’s a simple gesture, but it means a great deal to us. Just as Bob and Diane built Tivoli Lodge around a genuine love of hospitality, we believe it’s these thoughtful details and personal connections that make a stay memorable.
Whether it’s a familiar face welcoming you back, a special touch during the holidays, or one of those unexpected moments that makes you smile, we hope you’ll discover little pieces of the Tivoli tradition throughout your stay.
After all, the best traditions are the ones we’re able to share. And we’re grateful to share ours with you.
60 Years in Vail, and Still Making Memories
It’s hard to believe how much Vail has grown since 1963. What was once a small, ambitious ski resort has become a destination known around the world. We’ve watched the village evolve, welcomed guests from near and far, and seen families return year after year to experience the magic of the mountains.
Through all those changes, Vail has remained home to us.
We’re proud that Tivoli Lodge has been part of this community since 1968. We’re proud of what we built and grateful for the opportunity to carry it forward. Most of all, we’re thankful for the guests, friends, and neighbors who have become part of our story along the way.
As we look ahead, we want to keep doing what we’ve always tried to do: share the place we love, welcome people with genuine warmth, and create the kind of experience that makes you want to come back.
Whether you’re visiting Vail for the first time, returning for another ski season, planning a family getaway, experiencing Summer for the first time here or simply looking for a place to slow down and enjoy the mountains, we hope you’ll feel at home here.
Because to us, Tivoli Lodge has never been just a hotel. It’s our family’s story, our connection to Vail, and a tradition we’re lucky enough to share with you.
And after 60 years, we think the best chapters are still ahead.
From our family to yours, welcome to Tivoli Lodge. We look forward to seeing you in the mountains.
